ACTA PALAEONTOLOGICA ROMANIAE

Submission Guidelines
Acta Palaeontologica Romaniae oly accepts manuscripts written and submitted in English. Those whose native language is not English are encouraged to check their manuscript text with a native English speaking colleague before submission.
Title
It must be short and informative. Title must be accompanied by a suggested running title not exceding 50-60 characters (including spaces).
Names of the authors
The full names of all authors must be spelled out. Full address of the authors (including e-mail address(es)) must be listed after the author list, with references to the numbers (written in superscript characters) that follow the respective names. In the case of several co-authors, the corresponding author must be indicated (using a superscript *), for whom phone and fax numbers must be also included besides mailing address and e-mail.
Abstract
The abstract must be short (around 250 words) underlining the major contributions and results of the submitted paper. The abstract must not contain references to cited literature of text figures.
Keywords
For indexing reasons, the abstract must be followed by 5-6 keywords.
Text
The manuscripts must be written using 12 pt Times New Roman font, with the text double spaced and lines continuously numbered; use only A4 (21 x 29.7 cm) page format, with wide (3 cm) margins all over. All the text must be aligned to the left (including titles), with no line justification, and no tabs/indents at beginning of paragraph; leave one empty line before each sub-heading, as well as before AND after each main heading, abstract and key words. The usage of only main headings (e.g., Introduction, etc.) as well as one level of sub-headings is strongly recommended; these must NOT be numbered sequentially. The authors must use the standard IUGS terminology, as well as metric units. Tables and illustrations (figures) should NOT be inserted in the manuscript main body, and will be submitted as separate files. Table and figure captions follow at the end of the manuscript, after the references.
Taxon names must be quoted in italics, followed by the name(s) of the author(s) and the year of their description (e.g. Cubanina alavensis Palmer, 1936); this is the only instance italics can be used in the manuscript text (also, avoid using boldface or underlined characters). In the case of systematic palaeontology contrbutions, the description of the taxa must contain their systematic position (including author(s) names; these must be cited in the reference list), references to figured specimens, synonymy lists (if neccessary, see example below), followed by description, discussions (remarks), and age/stratigraphic position of the material.
Example:
Order Dasycladales Pascher, 1931
Family Dasycladaceae Kutzing, 1843
Genus Montiella Morellet et Morellet, 1922

Montiella elitzae

Symonymy
1971 Cylindroporella elitzae sp. nov. - Bakalova, p.126, pl. 3, figs.1-8, Barremian-Aptian, Prebalkan, Bulgaria.
1980 Montiella? elitza (Bakalova) nov. Comb. - Radoicic, p. 109, pl. 1, figs. 1, 2; pl. 2, figs. 1-4; pl.3, figs. 1-4, Barremian-Aptian, Eastern Serbia.
In the case new taxa are being described, the published specimens must be accessioned in a public collection, with the compulsory indication of the specimen numbers, as well as the name of the repository and of the institution where these are curated; in the description, the author(s) must comply strictly to the guidelines of the ICZN, respectively ICBN.
References
All references cited in the text (including table and figure captions) must be listed in the reference list. All citations from the reference list must be referred to within the text of the manuscript. The reference list should be ordered alphabetically and chronologically. When more than one reference works of the same author(s), published in the same year, are cited, the year of publication must be followed by a, b, c (both in the main text and the reference list). In-text citations must use the following formats: Rogl (1979); (Genot, 1987; Granier, 2012)
; Lazar (2010a, 2010b); Berger & Kaever (1992). In the case of three or more co-authors, the references are cited as Rasser et al. (2008) or (Saint Martin et al., 2007; Vasile et al., 2011). References to figures or quotes from cited publications are introduced by ,,:" like in: Genot, 1987: fig. 1, or Saint Martin et al., 2007: p.453.
In the reference list, the titles of the journals and books must be spelled out (no abbrevietions). When appropriate, use special characters (diacritical marks), in the titles as well s in the name of the authors. In the case of the references originally published in Russian (or any other Slavic language using Cyrillic characters), Arabian, or Asiatic (Japanese, Chinese), the title must be translated, mentioning, in square brackets at the end of the reference, the original language (eventually the presence of an English abstract, if available). In the case the cited work has a Doi (Digital Object Identifier) link, this can be included with the reference.

Illustrations. All illustrations (drawings, photographs, and any kind of assembled illustrations) are referred to as figures. References to figures within the text are as: Fig. 1; Figs. 2, 3; Fig. 8a-d. Each figure must be submitted as individual file (preferably in TIFF format, using LZW compression, for photographs, respectively as GIF or TIFF, using LZW compression, for vectorial graphic files), with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi (preferably 600 dpi). In case a figure is assembled from photographs and drawings (arrows, lettering, contour drawings, etc.), the width of the lines used must be at least 0,1mm (0.3 pts), and the resolution of the final artwork must be of 600 dpi. In the case of line drawings, graphics, etc, all lines must have a minimum width of 0,1mm (0.3 pts). Scanned black-and-white drawings can be accepted, but they must be submitted at a resolution of 1200 dpi. All figures must be prepared by the authors to span either one column (width 84 mm) or the entire page (width 174 mm), with a height not exceeding 234 mm; all figures must bear a scale (scales), or else references to a scale in the figure caption(s). For assembled artwork (e.g., from several photographs), the individual images must be numbered using lower-case letters a, b, c, d etc. If the submitted artwork contains text, the font size must be chosen so that it is easily readable at the final dimensions of the figure, without excessively overload it. The numbering of the figures (e.g., Fig. 3, Fig. 5a-c) must correspond to their order of appearence in the main text.
Acta Palaeontologica Romaniae will appear in print as a dominantly black-and-white publication. Should our authors consider using colour figures, these can be published in the on-line version of their paper, without incurring extra costs; however, in such cases the authors are hold responsible for producing BW figures for the printed version that contain all the information present in the colour version. In case the authors opt for publication of colour figures in the printed version of Acta, they will be charged a figure publication fee the amount of which will be decided on a case-by-case basis, depending on the complexity of the figures intended for colour reproduction. In such cases, the authors are asked to point out this option at submission, and they will receive in due time a cost estimate. If figures are published in print in BW, the figure caption must avoid any reference to colours. In case the authors use figures that were already published elsewhere, they must secure permission to use the figure
(s) from the copyright holder.
The table and figure captions must be listed on a separate page, at the end of the manuscript, succeeding the reference list; figures or captions included in the main manuscript body are NOT accepted.
